Fresh off the plane, he enthuses about his visit to Vangear – a leading provider in specialty gear manufacturing services with impressively large production capacity that includes 175 custom gear manufacturing machines housed in a 60,000 square-foot facility.

A large portion of the product we manufacture at Ronson Gears undergoes a heat treatment process. Heat treatment optimises the performance and extends the life of gears in service by altering their chemical, metallurgical, and physical properties. A very specialised and technical process, which is why we choose to sub-contract this process out.
In our blog about the American Gear Manufacturers Association on April 1, Gordon New shared his delight at being accepted as a board member and discussed how the gear industry is maintaining a vibrant footing in a shaky economic climate. Part of this positive and healthy outlook is the willingness by gear manufacturers to stay in touch with new innovations and to upskill through educational opportunities.
The catchphrase ‘going green’ now has a stronghold in our daily lives − each time we turn on the TV or pick up the newspaper, we are reminded about our responsibility to conserve energy. Our efforts to reduce energy consumption in order to preserve resources for the future and reduce environmental pollution, are now paramount.

In an increasingly environmentally conscious world, it appears that ‘going green’ with gear manufacturing may be the way of the future. Gear manufacturing decisions are based on cost, function and quality, and it seems that green manufacturing may encompass a broad spectrum of economically sound solutions that could not only improve process efficiency and reduce costs, but also conserve energy and resources.

Recently we had the pleasure of working with Rodney Brown (PUR3) and Luke Dyson Holland (CC/ECS1-AU) from Robert Bosch Australia (RBAU) to assist the company solve a specific gear measurement issue and develop a gear profile training package for their key personnel.

Back in 2007 the world's gear manufacturing capacities were being seriously challenged, particularly in Europe, with the wind generation industry exhausting the majority of this capacity. However, as it is with everything, the industry is ever-evolving and it may be time for gear manufacturers to look for the next 'big thing'.

Gearbox Lubrication

We often get asked about specific questions relating to gear design, lubrication, allowable loads etc. As we are sometimes not equipped with sufficient information about the application to provide a comprehensive reply, we thought to alert you to an interesting article in the January issue of Gear Solutions Magazine that may answer some of your questions concerning gearbox lubrication issues.
At Ronson Gears, our Wenzel Geartec CNC gear measuring machine is rarely idol. Every job that goes through our gear shop is checked on this independent gear measuring machine, as well as at other times in the gear manufacturing process. Customers may request the detailed graphed reports which confirm that the job has been completed in alignment with drawings and specifications, providing peace of mind that they are getting what they are paying for.
On a trip to Western Australia a few weeks back, Gavin visited a long-standing customer in Capel, a few hours south of Perth. Southwest Supplies is an authorised Hummer dealer/service agent specialising in right-hand conversions for limousine Hummers for the Australian market and conventional Hummers for the Indonesian market. Ronson Gears supply the rack and pinions that make this conversion possible.

Board directors of the American Gear Manufacturers Association met at the 2010 AGM in Tuscon, Arizona in March to discuss AGMA’s future plans, its current footing in the gear industry and to elect new board members.
