GEAR TALK - The gear manufacturing challenge

17 December 2009

Our search for knowledge and business expansion truly is never-ending!

Last week, our sales and marketing officer, Gavin New attended the two-day Strategic Resources Network Meeting in Oxnard, California.

Networking with some of the industry’s finest, the first event on Tuesday night, introduced Gavin to SRN’s Chair, Cory Sanderson of Koepfer America; Chairman of the AGMA and SEW Eurodrive’s Corporate Manager, David Ballard; President of the AGMA, Joe Franklin; and past chairman of AGMA, Richard Fullington, President of Milwaukee Gear.

Presentations at Haas Automation (click here to view videos of Haas!) and a factory tour of the facility - which incidentally, covers a whopping 1 million square feet of space – kept Gavin busy on the Wednesday.

Topics discussed included the USA’s State of Manufacturing, with an emphasis on the Steel Industry, manufacturing in a ‘green’ economy, tools to weather an economic downturn – which verified the accuracy of our current work, and the AGMA’s Energy Efficiency initiative.

Haas Automation, which manufactures machine tools, was shipping 60 machines a day before the economic downturn. Today, that figure has dropped to 25 machines a day. Covering merely 50% of their capacity demonstrates the current vulnerability of manufacturers in the US.

Keynote speaker, Richard Fullington addressed these challenges and the opportunities that come with each downturn.

Yet another valuable trip filled with beneficial networking and further knowledge gained!
