GEAR TALK - Optimising the Gear Grinding Process

It’s at the very core of most organisations to avoid unnecessary costs and the gear manufacturing industry is no different.

We recently came across a paper online discussing the process of gear grinding and how gear manufacturers can prevent grinding burn during their gear grinding process. If grinding burn appears, it reduces the hardness of the external layer and can reduce tensile stresses, which then diminishes the gear’s ability to perform at its optimum. Therefore, the gear may have to be scrapped.

The paper, titled “Optimization of the Gear Profile Grinding Process Utilizing an Analogy Process”, was written by Christof Gorgels, Heiko Schlattmeier, and Fritz Klocke.
