The forging process is not one we commonly talk about, however it is one of the oldest known metalworking processes which we make use of for our bigger gears. Whilst the method used in this video is somewhat primitive it still highlights the process involved and is great to see.
Forging is found in different industries, including gear manufacturing and is a process whereby metal is pressed or pounded under extreme pressure to produce strong gears for industries such as petrochemical, railways, oil and gas, and power energy.
The interesting thing about the forging process is that it can be forged at varying temperatures, from hot, to warm and cold.
